«On really short acquaintance he told me some things about myself that were true. I think it’s easy to mistake understanding for empathy—we want empathy so badly. Maybe learning to make that distinction is part of growing up. It’s hard and ugly to know somebody can understand you without even liking you. When you see understanding just used as a predator’s tool, that’s the worst. I … I have no idea how Dr Lecter feels about me.»

For a while, I have been considering blogging more frequent than once a month and blogging about something more than just my everyday life. Since I read a lot, it is a good idea to resume Smakebit på søndag (Sunday Sample, a weekly-ish post with a quote from a novel or book). I plan to post a sample every time I am reading books written in English. (Just so that I don’t have to translate the quote or try to find a translation for my English-speaking readers.)
At the time of writing this post, I’m reading «Hannibal» by Thomas Harris (quoted above), plus «Papillon» by Henri Charrière, and a collection of short stories. I am also proof-reading a YA novel.
